3 Kinds of Korean Microneedling, and How to Tell Which One You're Being Offered

Korean microneedling comes in three kinds that differ in what happens after the needle enters the skin, and the worry I hear most is how red you'll look on the flight home, which the recovery section below answers.
If you have a daylight photo of the area you want treated and a screenshot of the menu you've been offered, send both on WhatsApp.
I'm Dr. Min Jeong, the founding director, and visitors from abroad ask me this question so often that I'd ask you to read to the end.
What are the three kinds of Korean microneedling?
Three, and they differ in what happens after the needle enters the skin. The table sorts them by that, because the name on a menu rarely tells you.
| Kind | What the device does | Usually raised for |
|---|---|---|
| Needle-only (MTS) | Makes tiny channels, nothing else is delivered | Surface texture, mild marks |
| RF microneedling | Delivers radiofrequency heat into the dermis | Pores, acne marks, firmness, redness |
| Booster delivery | Opens channels so a booster or exosome product can go in | Hydration, tone, glow |
Needle-only sessions are the oldest form and the one sold as home rollers. Clinic devices generally differ from those rollers in depth control and sterility, which is where most of the risk sits.
REDI's treatment menu does not list a stand-alone needle-only session. Korean microneedling shows up there inside RF devices such as Potenza, Exion and Alltite, and as the route for exosome skin booster. MIRAJET is the needle-free one, and it sits under pores and scars.
RF microneedling: what the heat adds
Heat is the difference.
The same heat is used when redness is the main complaint: delivered into the dermis, it reduces inflammatory substances and eases the burning sensation. That is why one device can appear under acne, pores and redness on a menu, and why your complaint, not the device name, should lead the conversation.
Exion combines microneedling, monopolar radiofrequency and AI-controlled energy, and a session takes about 30 minutes. Alltite pairs RF with microneedling and adjusts depth by region, which makes it an option when sagging sits alongside pore or texture concerns; a session runs about 30 to 45 minutes. For a side-by-side of two korean microneedling RF devices, Potenza vs Legato goes through pores and scars. Device details are on the Exion and Alltite pages.
I also hold a POTENZA Expert Key Opinion Leader title. Device companies grant these titles to physicians with extensive experience using a device, and they carry no legal standing.
Doctor's note
When a menu says "microneedling", the first thing worth checking is depth and what travels down the needle. A needle that stops at the surface is a different tool from one that reaches the dermis with heat. Neither reaches the deep layer where significant sagging sits, which is why focused ultrasound such as Ultherapy Prime, aimed at the SMAS layer, is the usual route for that.
Who does Korean microneedling suit, and who should wait?
RF microneedling suits adults whose main concerns are visible pores, marked or textured skin, early laxity or dryness. It is usually postponed during an active infection, a cold sore outbreak or an open wound.
Common temporary effects are redness, swelling, dryness and pinpoint marks. Less common are infection and pigment change, which is a bigger consideration in deeper skin tones and after recent sun exposure. A tendency to keloid scarring, recent isotretinoin, blood thinners and pregnancy are things to tell the doctor before anything is booked. Results vary by individual.
Deep, indented acne scars are a separate case: they often need more depth than surface sessions reach, and atrophic scar treatment explains why. For a neutral second read, the American Academy of Dermatology publishes patient pages on microneedling for scars and on treating large pores.
How red will I be on the flight home?
Expect mild redness, and how long it lasts follows the device. After Alltite, redness or swelling is possible for one to three days.
For sequencing, put the session early in the stay rather than the evening before the flight, so the redness is behind you before the airport, and keep sunscreen in your carry-on.
Send your travel dates and a daylight photo of your skin on WhatsApp. The doctor reviews them and tells you which kind fits, whether your stay is long enough for it, and which part of the plan would add a visit.
Korean microneedling with exosomes and skin boosters
Exosome skin booster uses exosomes, tiny vesicles that carry signalling molecules between skin cells, and the treatment page says it is delivered into the skin, often via microneedling. It is used for texture, hydration, tone and the skin barrier.
Whether to add it to an RF session, or to pair it with Rejuran or Juvelook, is a decision made on your skin. The exosome skin booster page and the Korean skin booster guide cover the options.
A ranked list of Korean exosome products isn't something a blog post can give. The useful questions are which product it is, how it is delivered, and what it is meant to change in your skin.
Planning the visit from abroad
The clinic is on the fourth and fifth floors of DM Tower Bldg. 2, 105 Bangbae-ro, Seocho-gu, Seoul, a two-minute walk from Bangbae Station Exit 3 on Line 2, or five minutes from Naebang Station Exit 3 on Line 7.
Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:00 to 20:00, Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 to 19:00, and Saturday 10:00 to 15:00, with lunch 13:00 to 14:00 and no lunch break on Saturday. The late weekday hours can suit a consultation soon after you land.
Chinese and English interpreters are on site, so you don't need to bring someone to translate.

Before you book flights for Korean microneedling, send three things on WhatsApp: a daylight photo of your skin, the menu line or product name you were offered, and the dates you could be in Seoul. You get back which of the four kinds fits, whether that plan fits your stay, and which part would add a visit.
What side effects should I expect during a short stay?
Send your travel dates and the plan is set after diagnosis.
Frequently asked
Is Potenza the same as a derma roller or MTS?
No. A roller or MTS makes channels with needles and delivers nothing by itself. Potenza is an RF microneedling device: the microneedles go into the dermis and deliver radiofrequency heat, which is why it is raised for pores, acne marks and firmness.
How many sessions will I need?
For Exion, the treatment page says a series spaced a few weeks apart is the usual pattern, planned after diagnosis. For a single trip, the question to ask is what one session can and can't do, and what the plan for the rest looks like.
Does RF microneedling hurt?
Potenza's treatment page describes minimal pain with little disruption to daily life. Sensation still varies by area and by person, so mention it to the doctor if you are anxious.
Can I sightsee or go to work the next day?
Mild redness is the usual picture, and for Exion it settles within one to two days. Alltite can leave redness or swelling for one to three days, so a lighter schedule right after is sensible.
What does the cost of an RF microneedling plan depend on?
Four things move it: the area treated, the number of sessions, the device and depth chosen, and whether a booster or exosome product is added. Send a photo on WhatsApp and the team tells you what applies to your case.
