LDM Seoul: When I Book This Ultrasound Facial on a Trip, and When I Don't

Hi, I'm Dr. Min Jeong, director of REDI Dermatology in Seoul. My background is hospital dermatology: residency and board certification at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, then Chief of Dermatology at the Medical Office of Korea's Ministry of National Defense. Patients who ask me about LDM Seoul appointments usually have one of two ideas: that it is a lift, or that it is a nice extra to add at the end of a trip. The first is mostly wrong. The second is often right, for reasons worth understanding.
The short answer: LDM is a gentle ultra-high-frequency ultrasound facial for soothing and hydration, with about 20 minutes per session and almost no downtime. On a visit to Seoul, it earns its place in a few specific situations: the day before you fly or have photos taken, as a needle-free way to support a skin booster in sensitive skin, and after treatments that dry the skin out. It does not lift a sagging face. Please read to the end, because the timing is where it becomes useful.
| LDM at a glance | |
|---|---|
| What it is | Ultra-high-frequency ultrasound vibration |
| What it helps | Soothing, hydration, texture, recovery support |
| Time | About 20 minutes |
| Downtime (our data) | Little to none |
| What it won't do | Lift a sagging contour or boost a lift |
I have already written a general explainer on what LDM does. This article is about something narrower: where an LDM Seoul session fits in a real itinerary.
"Water-drop lifting": a nickname that misleads
In Korea, LDM is commonly called water-drop lifting, and many clinics offer it free after a lift. I have been blunt with my Korean readers about this: have you ever seen anyone lifted by LDM? It is a good soothing and moisturising treatment, but its lifting boost is disappointing.
That is why, for heat-based lifts that do not dry the skin, such as Ultherapy Prime or Density, I don't rely on LDM to add anything to the lift. If your main aim is a firmer contour, the lift itself is where your time and budget should go. Korean LDM technology is genuinely good at what it does; it just does something else.

Where LDM fits in a Seoul itinerary
Three situations account for most of the LDM Seoul sessions I plan for visitors.
The last day, or the day before an event
LDM leaves no marks, no redness to speak of and no recovery to plan around. That makes it one of the few treatments I am happy to book the day before a long-haul flight, a wedding or a photo shoot. When I had a television appearance with only two weeks to prepare, the last thing I had before filming was an exosome booster with LDM, precisely because I could not afford any downtime.
Sensitive skin that can't take needles
The exosome skin booster is often delivered with microneedling, which can leave the skin red for a while. For patients whose skin is inflamed or reactive, even fine needles can be too much. In those cases we use a gentle ultrasound device such as LDM to help it into the skin instead. The honest trade-off is that less is absorbed this way than with needles, so the choice depends on your skin rather than on convenience. We don't inject exosomes directly; they go in through the skin. I cover the booster itself in my exosome guide.
After treatments that dry the skin
Some treatments leave the skin feeling tight and parched. Tune Face, a radiofrequency lift that warms a broad area, is one example, and for patients whose skin is already very dry I often add LDM afterwards. The same logic applies after pigment lasers such as laser toning, when the surface feels dry and a little irritated. Here LDM is supporting the main treatment, not replacing it.
Who an LDM Seoul session suits, and who should skip it
Good candidates
- Sensitive, reactive or easily flushed skin that needs calming
- Dry, dehydrated skin, especially after a drying treatment
- Visitors who want a skin refresh with no recovery at all before an event or a flight
- Patients who need a needle-free route for a booster
Better served by something else
- Anyone whose main goal is lifting or tightening
- Pigment such as melasma, where a toning laser does the real work
- Scars and enlarged pores, which need treatments that remodel the skin
Planning an LDM treatment in Korea around your flights
Because it needs almost no recovery, an LDM Seoul appointment is the most flexible item in a schedule. A sensible pattern for a short stay:
- Early in the trip: anything with real downtime, if you are having it, so the skin settles in time.
- Middle of the trip: gentle pigment or booster sessions.
- Last day: LDM on its own, or with a booster if your skin suits it, then straight to the airport or your event.
Flying after LDM is not a concern in itself. The cabin air is dry, so keep a plain moisturiser in your hand luggage and reapply it on a long flight. For the bigger picture, see my notes on flying after skin treatment.

English- and Chinese-speaking interpreters are on site for consultation and treatment, and a specialist reads your skin in person before anything is recommended. After you go home, we stay in touch online if anything comes up. LDM is an elective, non-insured aesthetic treatment, and the plan and cost are explained at consultation.
Takeaways
- LDM is a soothing ultra-high-frequency ultrasound facial, about 20 minutes, with little to no downtime.
- The "water-drop lifting" nickname misleads: it does not lift, and I don't use it to boost a lift.
- An LDM Seoul session fits best on the last day of a trip, before an event, after drying treatments, or as a needle-free route for a booster in sensitive skin.
- For sagging, pigment or scars, other treatments do the real work. Results vary by individual.

Frequently asked
What is an LDM facial?
LDM uses ultra-high-frequency ultrasound vibration to soothe the skin and support its hydration and texture. A session takes about 20 minutes, with little pain and almost no downtime.
Is LDM the same as water-drop lifting?
In Korea LDM is often nicknamed water-drop lifting, but it is best understood as a soothing and hydration treatment. It does not lift a sagging contour on its own, and I don't rely on it to boost the result of a heat-based lift.
Can I have LDM the day before my flight home?
Yes. It leaves no marks and needs almost no recovery, which is why I often place it on the last day of a stay, or the day before an event or photos.
Can LDM be combined with a skin booster?
For very sensitive or inflamed skin, a gentle ultrasound device such as LDM can be used to help an exosome booster into the skin without needles. It absorbs less than a needle-based method, so we choose the route based on your skin.
Is LDM suitable for sensitive skin?
It is one of the gentler options we have, and it is often used to calm stressed or reactive skin. Every plan still starts with a diagnosis, and results vary by individual.
